As a socially responsible organization, decisions are made with the improvement of the environment in mind. Our business model was founded around extending the life of technology assets. Each asset we reuse eliminates the need for manufacturing a new one. Every aspect in the production cycle benefits from careful consideration and examination as it relates to our planets resources. While older products may require more power, the electricity usage, water, raw materials and carbon emissions created in manufacturing next generation products often outweigh the additional power usage requirements.
In today's world, a PC that no longer meets the operational criteria of a western company, can often be more than adequate for an organization or school in the developing world. With more than 40% of our sales shipping outside the United States, we take pride in assisting our neighbors with the expansion of technology they might use and afford.
Re-use of technology assets is our primary objective, and the entire Apto team takes numerous measures to insure the responsible re-positioning of those assets across the globe. Through our state of the art repair and refurbishment procedures, we ensure assets leave our facilities in proper working order with an extended life.
Recycling technology assets is always the last resort. If an asset cannot be repaired or is too old to be reused, we ensure it is properly recycled. As an R2 Certified company, Apto Solutions has a Zero Landfill Policy. Each recycled asset is broken down into base recyclable materials (Plastic, Printed Circuit Boards, Aluminum, Steel, Copper, Precious Metals, Wire/Cable, Batteries, Wood, and more) while being shipped to the appropriate end-of-life smelter. Ultimately, each of these materials is processed and makes its way back into the supply chain.
Apto Solutions employs a dedicated Compliance Officer to audit each tier of the material disposition downstream in order to document and validate each step in the process. Transparency is core to our reporting, and as our customers might attest, every aspect of what we do at Apto is tracked to the serial number of each asset we process. From Data Sanitization to documented chain of custody, information transparency is available for everything we do.
Responsible operations and living our values is part of our day to day mantra. Our investment in the environment extends beyond the reuse and recycle of technology equipment. In 2010, we engaged environmental consultancy Viresco (www.virescoconsulting.com) to perform a detailed environmental study of our facilities. They were instrumental in making recommendations to reduce power usage through low voltage lighting, decreased water consumption with low-flow faucets and toilets as well as the implementation of simple techniques for employees to decrease their personal energy usage at work and at home.
